It is the story of a 12-year-old boy, David who escapes a Communist concentration camp with little more than a compass, a sealed letter, a loaf of bread, and instructions to carry the letter to Copenhagen, Denmark. David is thrust into the free world for the first time in his young life as he travels across Europe.
It is a spiritual voyage of discovery, where David slowly loses his instinctual mistrust of humanity and begins to smile, share, trust and ultimately, love. I Am David addresses the cruelties, politics, and suffering of warfare while celebrating the resilience of youth and the unbreakable spirit of a child.

I would say this movie goes beyond good. It makes one wonder how many movies there are that somehow escape the public's attention. This child could have been of any nationality or set in a different time. Taking any child and trying to see life through eyes and emotions. Deprived of any sense of well being or security going out into life and step by step learning. It's one of those movies that touches the very fabric of life and goes beyond words. True in the end, unlike life, everything takes a turn for better. Somehow one wishes it could be so for every child and somewhere in the end the world would take a turn for the better. Maybe someday without going through the anguish of David, it will really happen.

WOW!! What an inspiring movie! This movie I found on accident .. and let me tell you it was one of the best accidents to come across!! I was inspired and was holding onto hope for this child David. I understood his need to find his place in this world. After watching this movie I still continue to think about it and how it made such an impact on me and how I view life. There is hope, sadness and joy in this movie and the part that Jim Caveizel played was excellent .. sort of eerie in one way as his portrayal to Jesus. A great "must see" for a pick me up.. Inspiring... I will definetely add this film to my library for others to enjoy as well!!
