Black House (2007) Aka Geomeun jip

Amongst the heady line-up of Korean summer horrors, Shin Tae Ra's grisly psychological thriller Black House has emerged as the critical and box office winner of 2007. Shin previously directed the low-budget sci-fi Brainwave in 2005, but the scope for his new title is greater, as it is co-produced by Japanese filmhouse Kadokawa Pictures and will be seeing a wide theatrical release in Japan. Delving into the investigation of a psychotic killer, the film is based on popular Japanese writer Kishi Yusuke's novel, which was previously adapted for the big screen in 1999 by Morita Yoshimitsu. Featuring top-notch production design and photography, Black House is a stylish, spine-tingling exercise in modern gore and goth that goes straight for the root of fear. Acclaimed actor Hwang Jung Min (You Are My Sunshine) underacts to great effect, creating a remarkably restrained character opposite the chilling performances of Kang Shin Il (Hanbando) and Yu Seon (The Wig). Jun-oh, formerly a bank employee, gets a call on his first day at work from a woman seeking advice. She asks if insurance is paid out on suicides, and only after hanging up does he see the warning on the insurance agreement. A few days Jun-oh receives a request for a meeting with an unknown policy holder. From the living room of a decrepit house Jun-oh opens the door to the bedroom to see a seven-year-old hanging from the ceiling. Police start an investigation, but the autopsy and all the evidence points to suicide. But Jun-oh can`t shake his suspicions that the incident was actually a murder. Marina Monster (2008)

Earl Molar, an employee at the Center for Inland Waters, is puzzled by the recent an inexplicable depletion of fish from his local marina. As the annual "Around The Bay" sailing race draws nearer, however, Earl discovers that the culprit behind the shortage of fish is, in fact, a deadly bull shark brought to the marina by a freighter. Furthermore, Earl's life is complicated by his love for the lovely Oceana Anchor and the meddling of newspaper reporter Lola Dent, who is investigating the finances of Earl's father, Drip. Although suffering from a weak second-half, the first section of Danny Boyle’s apocalyptical Brit-zombie DV film is superbly edgy and brutal, most notably the early morning shots of a deserted London, and the quick and deadly ‘contaminated’. The film plays on our fears of isolation, viruses (infected by Rage) and social paranoia, with heavy debt to Romero.

Set in one location (The Forest of Resurrection) the film is a subtle blend of myth (themes such as reincarnation and destiny) and non-stop action. Sure, it’s as silly as hell, but the terrific camerawork and fast editing more than compensate for the script’s shortcomings.

An idyllic wildlife cruise disintegrates into terror when a party of tourists are stalked by a massive man-eating crocodile. Pete McKell, a cynical American travel writer, joins a disparate group of holiday-makers on a river cruise through the waters of Kakadu National Park. Initially Pete clashes with their tour captain, Kate, a feisty young woman who assumes he is just another 'city-slicker' in search of a quick thrill. After an uneventful day cruising the river, Kate is reluctantly persuaded to steer their boat into unexplored territory. They discover a secluded lake but terror strikes when their craft receives a powerful blow from beneath the murky depths and begins to sink.
